Tucked away in the serene hills of Castel San Pietro Terme, where Emilia and Romagna converge, Umberto Cesari has been a passionate advocate for the Sangiovese grape since the early 1960s. One of their latest projects, Costa di Rose Sangiovese Rosé IGT has quickly become a favorite for summer sunset aperitivos.
With its fresh and fruity profile, Costa di Rose is an intriguing, modern interpretation of Sangiovese that blends a deep knowledge of the variety with a desire to showcase its multifaceted personality.
The wine
Costa di Rose is obtained from 100% Sangiovese grapes, grown in clayey soils in Podere Parolino. After harvest, the clusters are gently pressed, then the juice is given a gravity clarification and the must ferments at a low temperature. The wine matures 6 months in steel.
Costa di Rose fills the glass with an antique rose hue, glowing with vibrant peach tones. The aroma is a delightful bouquet of red fruits, with wild strawberries, cherries, pomegranate, and raspberry taking center stage. On the palate, this rosé is savory and elegant, balanced by a refreshing acidity that makes it both a sophisticated and accessible choice. The label, adorned with white and Tiffany blue stripes, echoes the carefree spirit of the Dolce Vita, evoking images of sunny beach loungers. Best enjoyed chilled at 8-10°C, it’s perfect for a warm afternoon or as a sea-side aperitivo; its crisp and vibrant profile pairs wonderfully with smoked salmon, raw scampi, sushi, or Cantabrian anchovies. Summer in a glass!
