Situated in the heart of the Valdobbiadene DOCG, Col Vetoraz is located at almost 400 meters above sea level. The winery rises on top of the homonymous ridge, one of the famous Cartizze hills that yield a truly fine wine.
This is where the Miotto family settled in 1838 and began cultivating vines. In 1993, Francesco Miotto, together with agronomist Paolo De Bortoli and enologist Loris Dall’Acqua, founded Col Vetoraz. Within a few years, this small winery has been able to innovate, grow and produce high-quality wines in Valdobbiadene DOCG.
Over the years, great respect for tradition, profound devotion to the territory, utmost care of the vineyards and a meticulous production process have allowed to produce outstanding wines and achieve remarkable results at the most prestigious national and international wine competitions.
The philosophy behind Col Vetoraz is simple: to carefully follow a process that preserves the expressiveness of the fruit and obtain the vine’s natural balance and harmony. After all, the hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene, now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are a magnificent land of undisputedly unique and incommensurable cultural and historical value.
The territory, regarded as the primary and most important element in determining the quality of wine, is highly respected. In order to do this, Col Vetoraz carries out a strict selection of the grapes. According to Loris Dall’Acqua, the winery’s CEO and enologist: “We have abundant harvests, reaping quantities that are much higher than our needs. We prefer the area with calcareous and siliceous soils of Miocene origin, which are the most suitable for the production of high-quality grapes: this allows us to harvest the best fruit. We require our winegrowers to embrace the company's production principles and refrain from adding anything to the wine during bottling. We exclusively carry out physical and mechanical cleaning methods right from the pressing and we do not make use of any treatment that could alter the wine’s natural harmony. I firmly believe that elegance, harmony and balance are the key to producing pleasant sparkling wines”.
This method allows Col Vetoraz to vinify more than 2,300,000 kg of grapes every year, which turn into 1,250,000 bottles. Each is the embodiment of a profound respect for Nature. 20% of the grapes come from property vineyards, while the rest is cultivated by 72 trusted winegrowers who comply with the winery’s principles and to whom direct agronomic consultation is offered. This allows the production of high-quality Valdobbiadene DOCG wines and has contributed to making Col Vetoraz one of the most respected wineries of the denomination.
IMMERSIVE ART EXPERIENCE
Today, Col Vetoraz celebrates its magnificent territory with an extraordinary and captivating art experience.
Two excellences, Valdobbiadene DOCG and the art works by Arianna Gasperina – also known as Arya – come together to celebrate the five senses. This extraordinary exhibition can be admired at Col Vetoraz’s reception hall in Santo Stefano in Valdobbiadene. From February to July 2022, the winery is home to the wooden sculptures of this artist from Pordenone.
This is another reason to climb the heights of the hills of Cartizze and indulge in an immersive experience that engages all senses. Have a taste of Valdobbiadene DOCG and let our professional staff welcome you: admire the evocative sculptures and head to the panoramic terrace to marvel at the sweeping vineyards.
“Respect, sensitivity, attention and care for the land, constant listening to and observance of the rhythms of nature. These are principles that, together with the required technical skills, are reflected in our philosophy – says Loris Dall’Acqua, CEO and enologist of Col Vetoraz. These elements also bring the world of wine closer to art: a wine that elegantly expresses harmonious aromas and balanced flavors is indeed a work of art.”
The artist, with her fresh and powerful style, mainly carves the wood using a chainsaw. She then defines some details, as if identifying a focal point, using scalpels and rasps: the sculptures acquire greater finesse and highlight the contrast between the rough and smoother parts. Arya’s art comes from a strong desire to share emotions and ideas that arise from a profound and constant research. The artist’s innate instinct and technique create works that simply speak to one another. For Arianna, being a sculptor is a life mission rather than a profession: it means building connections that give rise to intense sensations and feelings between the mind and the heart.
The message is conveyed through wood, a living material with its own personality, one that deteriorates and changes over time, just like us.
The Arianna Gasperina exhibit marks the beginning of a long journey that unites Wine and Art: every six months, Col Vetoraz’s reception hall will be featuring different artists.
