Piceno Territory

Nestled between the sea and the looming mountains is the Piceno wine area of Marche. Although local Sangiovese and Montepulciano grow headily in the region, and are turned into Rosso Piceno Superiore DOC and Conero DOCG, it is truly a land of outstanding white wine. A handful of DOCG wines are made from Marche’s most famous native white grapes, Pecorino, Passerina, and Verdicchio. They were rediscovered in the 80s and have progressively come to define the winemaking culture of Marche. Paired with local cuisine that blends specialties from the mountains with fresh seafood from the coast, these wines embody the full terroir of Marche.

Private Guided Winery Tour at Tenuta Cocci Grifoni

Tenuta Cocci Grifoni Winery has been making family wines since 1933. The winery is deeply embedded in the history of the Cocci Grifoni family and continues to be with the fourth-generation of Cocci Grifoni women leading the winery. What was born as a family country residence, has developed into a world-renown wine estate that makes terroir-driven wines from native grapes and upholds the principles of sustainable agriculture. Their flagship label is Colle Vecchio Offida DOCG Pecorino, made from the “Mother Vineyard” of original Pecorino vines planted 35 years ago. The Cocci Grifoni family has always seen themselves as stewards of the land, and so, their entire 95-hectare estate is managed following two principle tenants of sustainability. Custodianship and Tradition. Under these principles, the estate is divided into vineyards, olive groves, wheat fields, and untouched woodland to protect biodiversity. The tour concludes with a guided tasting of three of the winery’s most iconic labels, accompanied with a selection of local meats & cheeses.
