Barbaresco Territory

The Barbaresco territory is separated from the Barolo area by the town of Alba. It is a tiny district that includes only the four villages of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco. It expands for approximately 700 hectares to the south of the Tanaro river, which means it enjoys a slightly more maritime microclimate than the neighbouring Barolo area. Barbaresco is the “Queen,” alongside the “King” Barolo, of Piedmont’s red wine production. Both are made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, but Barbaresco’s profile is softer and more approachable. The tannins round out quicker, but long-aging is still necessary for a truly spectacular wine.

  • Day 1: Morning

Private Guided Winery Tour at Ceretto

The secret to success for Ceretto in Piedmont is owed to the exceptional soil and climate of the Langhe and the proprietors’ passion and wisdom to capture this quality in the wine. Ceretto is one of the most important wineries in the Langhe.

It is the tenacious passion of the two founding brothers that transformed the world’s perception of Barolo and the Langhe wine region. From their three fully-certified organic estates, Ceretto makes the region’s great wines: Barolo and Barbaresco. They have also been led by their faith in the territory, which is apparent in the winery’s deep ties to the community. They support various artistic and cultural ventures, including the 3 Michelin-starred Piazza Duomo and the Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett Chapel.

The tour will begin with a guided visit of their cellar, vineyards and production area and will delve into the history of the family and the winery. This will be followed with a premium tasting of 4 wines, including two single-vineyard labels, in one of their stunning private tasting rooms that overlook the surrounding vineyards and showcases the winery’s iconic L’Acino viewing room.

  • Day 1: Lunch

    La Piola

Enjoy a traditional lunch at La Piola restaurant in Alba. In Piedmontese dialect, piola refers to the village osteria, the place where traditional dishes and generous glasses of local wines are served.

The lively atmosphere, almost a friendly one, becomes the perfect complement to the food on the table and the wine in the glasses. For this reason, when the Ceretto family chose to open a restaurant offering typical Langa cuisine in 2005, the choice fell naturally on this name.

At Piola, the menu is written with chalk on the large blackboard in the main room every day: it is made according to market availability and the seasonality of the ingredients, and therefore it changes very often.

Chef Dennis Panzeri who trained at Albereta di Gualtiero Marchesi proposes great classics of Piedmontese cuisine: “Plin” agnolotti, tajarin pasta, raw meat tartare and veal with tuna sauce, symbols of a rich gastronomic tradition that has made the Langhe one of the most famous places in the world for the quality of food.

Taste the fresh flavors and recipes that have defined this region for centuries, discover these gastronomic delicacies for a true gourmet Piedmont experience!

  • Day 1: Afternoon

Shared Guided Winery Tour at la Spinetta

In a breathtaking hills landscape, you will find La Spinetta winery. The visit takes you through the history of the Rivetti family and its philosophy.

The Rivetti family's story began in the 1890s when Giovanni Rivetti left Piedmont for Argentina. He dreamed of returning rich and a powerful man, and perhaps even one day having the opportunity to make a great wine in his homeland. Though Giovanni never did, his son, Giuseppe fulfilled the dream.

In 1977 the family took up residence at La Spinetta in Castagnole Lanze, located in the heart of the area well-known for Moscato d’Asti. The Rivettis believed, however, that Moscato d'Asti had the potential for greatness and set out to prove it by producing the region’s first single-vineyard Moscato wines, Bricco Quaglia and Biancospino.

Walking through the winery (the vinification room and the rotofermenter room) you will arrive in their impressive barrique cellar called “barricaia” characterized by cathedral ceilings and an open space. During the tasting you can discover their wines produced only with native grape varieties.
