Vineyards wedged in between wooded hillsides and ancient olive groves.

Bolgheri Territory

The Bolgheri region is a wine zone in the Maremma that runs parallel to the Tuscan coast in the province of Livorno, named after the town of Bolgheri. Unlike many other prestigious vineyard territories throughout Italy, Bolgheri is comparatively flat and low in altitude. Vineyards are wedged in between wooded hillsides and ancient olive groves, and soils are alluvial and rich in minerals, sand, limestone, clay, pebbles, and volcanic rock in the east. The sea is one of the place’s defining characteristics, the sunshine and maritime influence can be found in the intense, red wines.

  • Day 1: Morning

Private Guided Winery Tour at Campo alle Comete

Getting to Campo alle Comete is like entering a world suspended between the land and the sky, where one can walk leisurely and be guided by the stars. The name evokes the soul of the place, so rich in history and magic, that it can bring the mind back to childlike images of ancient perfumes and soft dandelions. The atmosphere immediately becomes familiar, thanks to the emotion radiated by the vineyards and the myriad of flavours. With the Tyrrhenian Sea just a few steps away, surrounding the area, Castagneto Carducci rises on the famous Etruscan coast. Outlined by hills that recall an amphitheatre in the background, it is the cradle of Campo alle Comete.

The light that dominates the landscape, the temperate climate and the well-balanced and rich land allow the 15 hectares of land, with 6,500 / 7,500 plants per hectare, to generate wines with a gentle and also well-defined character. The grape varieties of Campo alle Comete, closely linked to the Bolgheri area, are: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The tour of the winery will end with a private tasting in a dedicated tasting room, and the wines will be paired with a selection of Tuscan cold cuts and Carmasciando cheeses.

Enjoy a traditional lunch at La Magona

Hidden amongst the olive groves and vineyards, this country house is renown for its grilled meat dishes. The rustic kitchen serves the best cuts from Tuscany’s favourite butcher: Dario Cecchini. He is famous for his Chiantigiana beef, a breed of cow from the Chianti hills, Dario’s expert craftmanship as a butcher allows the kitchen to highlight the succulent flavour of each cut with their grilling skills.

    - 3-course set menu: Anitpasto Toscana, Bistecca alla fiorentina (1kg per 2 people), choice of side, dessert, water & coffee
    - Wine pairing not included, to be paid separately to the restaurant destination

  • Day 1: Afternoon

Private Guided Winery Tour at Ornellaia

Tenuta Argentiera stands in a magnificent piece of Maremma land that unites the countryside and the sea, suspended between woods and Mediterranean scrub. You are in the heart of the small but prestigious Doc Bolgheri, a terroir suited to great red wines.

The name Argentiera has an evocative meaning: it comes from the silver mines that once were in this area of the Upper Maremma, also rich in natural springs and healing waters.

The estate is the closest to the Tyrrhenian coast and at the same time the one that reaches the highest altitude of the entire Bolgherese territory, reaching 200 meters above sea level: this duplicity makes it different from all the others and manages to create a microclimate with characteristics unique.

The tour includes a visit to the Argentiera vineyard, from which the estate takes its name, the place where the iconic Bolgheri Superiore is born. After visiting the cellar, the tour will end with an exclusive tasting to be held in the panoramic room.

    Wine Tasting

    - Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore DOC
    - Poggio ai Ginepri Bolgheri Rosato DOC
    - Poggio ai Ginepri Bolgheri Rosso DOC
    - Villa Donoratico Bolgheri Rosso DOC
    - Poggio ai Ginepri Toscana Vermentino IGT

Enjoy a free walk through Bolgheri Medieval town

The town of Bolgheri is a charming medieval village with a red brick castle that has been owned by the noble Gherardesca family since the 1200s. The first thing that will strike you is the famous Viale dei Cipressi, or Cypress Avenue, a straight road about 5 km long lined with tall, majestic cypresses that leads straight to the Castle of Bolgheri. The famous 19th century Italian poet Giosuè Carducci wrote about the suggestive avenue in his poem “Davanti a San Guido” (In front of San Guido). Beyond its ancient town walls is an angle of Tuscany that feels like a step back in time, a small oasis of Tuscan allure and aristocratic appeal. The town is dotted with shops and restaurants, neat and well-tended, and is entirely pedestrian. You might want to stop by the Enoteca Tognoni for a bottle or glass of wine to taste.
