Zenato is located in San Benedetto di Lugana, twenty-five kilometers (15 mi) west of Verona on the shore of the fascinating and oneiric Lake Garda.
The winery owns ninety-five hectares of vineyards in Lugana and Valpolicella, where the soil is morainic and the climate is mild. The winery was founded by Sergio Zenato and his wife, Carla, in 1960.
Zenato makes white and red wines that exemplify the founder’s passion for the land and its history, respect for the environment and devotion to promoting the local grape varieties for half a century.
The winery quickly grew a solid reputation for high-quality wines made from the local grape, Trebbiano di Lugana. Then, beginning in the 1990s, Sergio extended his horizons, buying land and making wines in Valpolicella at the Costalunga estate in Sant’Ambrogio. Here, Corvina and Rondinella are cultivated, the two varieties at the base of the famous Amarone della Valpolicella. Another outstanding wine is Ripassa, a Valpolicella Superiore DOC created in a unique method: the best selection of Valpolicella wine is “passed over” the still-warm marcs of the dried grapes used to make Amarone wine.
This ancient method was rediscovered in the 90s by Sergio Zenato and produces an intense wine rich in body, colour and aroma. Today, Zenato is represented by the founder’s children, Alberto and Nadia.
