The Piobesi d'Alba winery celebrates 555 years of history with a program of events throughout the year, which will culminate, in September, in the great harvest festival of Casa Cayega

2022 marks the 555th anniversary of Tenuta Carretta. The name “cassina Careta” appeared for the very first time in an official document that dates back to 1467 and is said to be located in the very same area where the current winery stands today. 

The sharecropping concession contract drawn up on November 28, 1467 by notary Giorgio di Monteacuto (which corresponds to the town of Monteu Roero) is considered as the certificate attesting Tenuta Carretta’s date of birth.

The winery is turning 555: this is an important milestone that includes Tenuta Carretta among the oldest wineries in Italy. And this anniversary will be celebrated throughout 2022.

TENUTA CARRETTA EXPERIENCE IS BACK

To celebrate the winery’s 555th anniversary, we will be bringing back some of the events promoted in 2019 through our Wine Club, TENUTA CARRETTA EXPERIENCE. We will organize exclusive themed tastings for our members where they can enjoy and purchase wines by Tenuta Carretta and the Terre Miroglio group (which also includes Malgrà in Mombaruzzo and Edoardo Miroglio Winery in Elenovo, Thracian Valley - Bulgaria). Wine club members will have en primeur access to exclusive labels, including rare vintages that cannot be found elsewhere.

The calendar of upcoming EXPERIENCES will be available in the coming months (starting from May 2022). These activities will be held at the Tenuta and at associated restaurant and accommodation facilities: Flavio Costa’s Ristorante 21.9 (found within the Tenuta, in Piobesi d’Alba), Locanda in Cannubi (in Barolo) and Villa Garassino, in Treiso.

CASA CAYEGA: 555

Casa Cayega is Tenuta Carretta’s biggest event: this annual celebration marks the beginning of the autumn harvest and opens the doors of the winery to all wine lovers. This coming September, Casa Cayega will open Tenuta Carretta’s majestic vineyards to celebrate the winery’s 555th anniversary: guests can trek among the vineyards, enjoy exhibitions, music, and taste wines paired with gourmet delicacies. Visitors who want to try their hand at harvesting can participate in Vignaiolo per un giorno and collect grapes directly from the vines. Casa Cayega will also hold events dedicated to trade and industry professionals, in addition to the vast array of activities organized to celebrate Tenuta Carretta’s anniversary.

LE NOVITÀ DALLA CANTINA

The cellar will also be joining in commemorating Tenuta Carretta’s important milestone. New exciting labels are coming up soon: these wines will surely surprise wine lovers, while staying true to tradition and bringing out the best expression of native varieties. We are currently working on an innovative way to enhance two outstanding varieties, which will come out in with new “shapes and colors”. We will also be presenting the fruit of our work with an international vine that has successfully made Alta Langa its new home.
